Breast Cancer

I am walking the Breast Cancer 3Day in November, well atleast I hope I am. See, each person needs to raise $2,200 to be able to walk and I am just $800 short of that with only 7 weeks to go. I thought that you'd like to know what motivates me to participate in The Breast Cancer 3-Day, a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. I am walking because I can. I am walking for those men and women who cannot. I am walking for those dear to me--friends, family, and classmates--those who have lost their courageous battle with cancer. This is my motivation for joining this great cause and for walking so far. I am walking in hope that together we will find a cure; and for those individuals who, despite enduring the agony of breast cancer, demonstrate an awesome spirit and faith in the belief that one day we will end breast cancer forever. Here is a poem written by a fellow walker. Have your tissues ready!

10:22

He didn’t want to tell her good-bye
But even he knew the sky beckoned her to fly
Deep in his heart he tried to be strong
And at 10:21 he knew it wouldn’t be long
He looked at his mom asleep on the bed
He looked at the pillow that cradled her head
He looked real hard so he would always know
And at 10:22 he let her go
He looked at his boys at 10:21
He can barely remember being that young
They began to pray; it was all they could do
And their prayers were answered at 10:22
She’s known her forever and probably a day
She beat the same demon that causes her pain
She’ll miss her so much; it’s breaking her heart
And at 10:22 she was falling apart
I woke up exactly at 10:22
My head still pounding as I battled the flu
I stared at the clock until 10:23
And then I found my way back to sleep
They were holding their breath since before Christmas Day
They wondered if God would send a miracle their way
The clock kept on ticking; the moments were few
And they finally exhaled at 10:22
At 10:22 she found her wings
She rose from the bed and she started to sing
The sky was blue as far as she could see
And at 10:23 she was finally free
